Frequently Asked Questions About UCR's Participation in the National LGBT Campus Climate Survey:

How will UCR benefit from taking part in the survey?

Our campus will receive a UCR-specific report next academic year from the survey researchers. This report will be the first UCR assessment of LGBT campus climate since 2004. It will provide vital data on the experiences of LGBT faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students, as well as perceptions of campus climate by campus members of all sexual orientations and gender identities. Data will be inluded in reports to the Chancellor on how UCR is meeting its goals regarding diversity, equity and excellence. The LGBT Resource Center and other UCR departments will use survey results to guide future services and initiatives.

What is the deadline for completing the survey?

June 30, 2009

How long does it take to complete the survey?

The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete. The survey may take longer depending on the length of your responses to open-ended questions.

Is the survey anonymous?

Yes. Your confidentiality will be kept to the degree permitted by the technology used (e.g. IP addresses will be stripped when the survey is submitted).

However, please identify "UC Riverside" in the demographic section of the survey, so that your responses may be included in the UCR-specific report.

I do not identify as LGBT. Should I take the survey?

Yes. Your perceptions of campus climate are valuable.

Who is sponsoring UCR's participation in this survey?

Funding for the UCR-specific report is provided by the Division of Student Affairs and the Division of Diversity, Equity and Excellence.

Who will be compiling the results of the survey?

The Research Director is Dr. Susan R. Rankin of The Pennsylvania State University and Associate Research Director is Dr. Warren J. Blumenfeld of The Iowa State University. They will oversee the results of the survey and deliver a report next academic year to UCR regarding our campus's responses.

Who will see the results of the survey?

The report will be delivered to the Chancellor's Advisory Committee on the Status of LGBTs. Results will be shared with the Chancellor; Academic Senate Chair; Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs; Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Excellence; and the Staff Assembly President. The Chancellor's Advisory Committee on the Status of LGBTs will work with campus stake-holders to educate the campus community on survey results
