Gender Neutral Housing Option

Gender neutral housing opportunities are available within UCR Housing. Any student may request gender-neutral housing. Placement priority will be given to students who notify UCR Housing that they require accommodations based on their gender identity or gender expression. Currently located in Pentland Hills, gender neutral housing allows same-gender roommates, opposite-gender roommates, or other gender-identity roommate pairings, regardless of physical sex. (To clarify, gender identities are numerous and include man, woman, and transgender, among many others.) Thus, residents of gender neutral housing may request any roommate whosoever.

If a student wishes to live in gender neutral housing but does not request a particular roommate on the Room Assignment Form, Housing will assign a roommate based on Roommate Compatibility Evaluations and follow-up interviews.

Pentland Hills features single-person restroom and shower facilities, providing privacy for every resident.

All gender neutral housing is located in the same Pentland Hills building as Stonewall Hall, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, questioning and allies residential community (which also provides gender neutral housing). All residents of this building, like those of any other UCR residence hall, must adhere to common standards of civility and respect regarding diverse gender identities/expressions and sexual orientations.
